It's probably the question we hear most at Gecko Surf School, right after 'are the waves good today?': how long does it take to learn to surf?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The honest answer: it depends. But we can be a lot more specific than that. After hundreds of students in Costa da Caparica, we know well what's realistic to expect at each stage \u2014 and that's what we'll show you in this guide. <\/p>\n

How long does it take to learn to surf? The short answer <\/h2>\n

In most cases, you can catch your first whitewater waves and stand up in your first or second lesson.<\/strong> To catch green waves (waves that haven't broken yet) with some independence, count on 10 to 20 sessions.<\/strong> To surf with consistency \u2014 reading the sea, choosing waves, paddling to the right spot \u2014 you're looking at a full season <\/strong>of regular practice. <\/p>\n
